Izmir Simit Prices to Increase Due to Rising Costs

Simit, also known as “gevrek” in Izmir, is set to see a price increase. The President of Izmir Bagel Producers and Similar Artisans Chamber announced that the price hike for Izmir Bagel will take effect after the approval from the ministry.

‘We Are Not in Favor of Price Hikes’

In his statement, Erisen said, “As you know, with the start of the new year, there are price increases in many expense items such as labor wages, insurance, taxes, fuel, raw materials, and rent. Considering the economic situation of the citizens, we are not in favor of raising prices for products, but it is our duty to protect our members against price hikes.”

‘There Was a 200% Increase in Flour Prices’

Erisen stated, “There was a 200% increase in the price of flour bags, and we have decided to raise the prices by 17%. After the necessary cost calculations were made, we submitted our request to the food commission of our union. After receiving approval from the Ministry of Trade, Izmir Bagel will be available for sale at 15 TL.”
